WHY DEFECTS OCCUR
Since the late 80's the house building industry has struggled to bring through a sufficient number of qualified apprentices. That decline in qualified tradesmen has shown up clearly as a major industry skills shortage. The industry has therefore developed into a mainly self-employed workforce unregulated and more concerned with achieving high earnings than job satisfaction.
Quite often your site manager will not even know the names of the people building your home! It is very much a transient industry now with some people working on your site today but on a different site tomorrow dependent on who is paying the most favourable rates. This is why it's so difficult to say one builder is better than another. They are all only as good as the pool of locally available labour.
